When Oumou Sangaré began her debut »Moussolou« in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) in 1989, no one yet knew that the world career of the future »Queen of Mali Music« began. Sangaré comes from the Wassoulou region, where she was born in 1968.
The recordings for "Moussolou" are heavily tied to the melodic and traditional music style. With two exceptions: On the one hand the use of electric guitar and bass give the six pieces a modern touch, on the other hand, Sangaré reflects with self-conscious, feminist texts the traditional female role understanding of African societies.
Many of her songs revolve around love, marriage and the free choice of relationship. "Moussolou" sold within a few months over 100,000 times across West Africa - an unprecedented success. Since "Moussolou" was no longer commercially available since 2003, the Label World Circuit has decided to reissue this iconic album in 2016 as a CD
